Abstract

Social skills are crucial for adolescents in vocational high schools (SMK) to prepare them for the workforce. This study investigated the relationship between authoritative parenting style and social skills among SMK students in Bekasi City. Using a quantitative correlational design, 242 students were recruited through purposive sampling. Authoritative parenting was measured using the Parenting Styles and Dimensions Questionnaire-Short Version (PSDQ), while social skills were assessed with The Social Skills Improvement System-Rating Scale (SSIS-RS). Data were analyzed using Spearman's rho correlation. Results revealed a significant positive correlation between authoritative parenting style and social skills (r = 0.526, p < .001), indicating that higher levels of authoritative parenting are associated with better social skills in students. These findings underscore the importance of warm, communicative, and consistent parenting in fostering adolescent social competence.
