Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between friendship dependency and social loafing among senior high school students. Friendship dependency refers to a high emotional reliance on peers, while social loafing is the tendency of individuals to exert less effort when working in groups. This research used a quantitative correlational method. The participants consisted of 140 high school students in Bekasi City selected through purposive sampling. The instruments used were validated and reliable questionnaires on friendship dependency and social loafing. Data were analyzed using JASP software. The results showed a significant relationship between friendship dependency and social loafing. The higher the students' dependency on friends, the greater their tendency to reduce individual contribution in group tasks. These findings highlight the importance of fostering individual independence and accountability in collaborative learning environments to mitigate the negative effects of excessive peer dependency.
