Abstract

Police as law enforcement officers operating in an environment full of challenges can cause high levels of work stress. It is not uncommon for police officers to work in the face of life-threatening dangers, navigate complex social interactions in society, and bear witness to human suffering in conflict areas. Depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and suicidal behavior are often found in police officers, especially those who have served for many years. Many police officers experience trauma when they witness violence in the community, traffic accidents and shootings that claim the lives of their colleagues. As a result, the level of work stress among officers becomes high and has the potential to increase brutal behavior. Emotional regulation that can reduce negative emotional feelings and maladaptive behavior is a method that can be used to reduce emotional fatigue felt due to a fairly high workload. This research aims to examine in more depth the strategies for dealing with police work stress and to improve the welfare of police officers using a literature study approach.
